Jen & Chip - Celtic Trinity

What is that thing?

celtic trinity

This symbol is called a Celtic Trinity Knot. It is also called the triquetra, which means “three cornered” in Latin.

To Celtic Christians, it symbolized God as Trinity (Parent, Christ, and Holy Spirit; the Lover, the Beloved, and the Love; et al).

Also it could represent fish ("pisces") - shown as three fishes. In the first centuries of Christianity when believers were persecuted, the fish (ichthus) was a valuable symbol. When two believers who did not know each other met, one would draw half the fish in the sand. If the other person completed the other half of the fish they knew they were safe to talk of their beliefs.

A third representation is one of relationship between husband, wife, and God.

Chip and Jen have chosen wedding bands that have the Trinity Knot on them because of this special significance.
